The SANDF considers Denel PMPs product lines to be of sovereign importance to its requirements. Besides Denel PMPs full range of small-calibre (5,56 mm to 12,7 mm) and medium-calibre ammunition (20 mm to 35 mm) used on navy vessels, helicopters, fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft cannons, as well as infantry fighting vehicles, Denel PMP also produces high quality percussion caps of all types, as well as links for various small- and medium-calibre rounds.

Denel PMP has completed the development of a family of 30 mm x 173 medium-calibre rounds for use in new generation infantry fighting vehicles, specifically for the Hoefyster project of the SANDF.

The new P.A.W 20mm weapons application is direct or suppressive. Its effectiveness should extend to targets which are under cover.

30 x 173mm Technical Data

The 30 x 173mm ammunition is to be used on the Section Variant (SV) and Fire Support Variant (FSV) of the new Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) of the SANDF.This ICV is named BADGER and will replace the outdated but combat proven and reliable RATEL.The ammunition was developed to comply to the requirements of the end user in the SANDF.The ammunition has a consistency(dispersion) of ? 0.3 standard deviation in Height and Width to optimise first shot hit probability.
